1. Nose Plugs of Apatani Tribe

Have you heard about the nose plugs? No right? But, the women in the Apatani tribe in the Ziro Valley of Arunachal Pradesh wear them since their existence. It is believed that the women belonging to this tribe are so beautiful that they use the wooden plugs inside their nose holes and tattoo their face to make them look unattractive. This is done to protect themselves from other tribes of the same state.

2. Neck Stretching In Myanmar

The Kayan are considered as the Tibeto-Burman ethnic minority group living in Myanmar that is famous for wearing the brass coils around the neck. The women of this community wear coils around their neck to make it look longer than before. It is also seen that women of the Kayan community can even wear up to 25 brass coils for their lifetime. The children of this group are also given to wear the coils at the age of 5 years. The coil set consists of a coil that weighs up to 4.5 pounds. In the later times, the rings are added as well.

3. Ear Stretching In Masai Tribe

The Masai tribes of Kenya and Huaorani tribes of the Amazon belt generally carry out this custom by elongating the earlobes by putting weight or by upsizing and piercing to elongate the area further. Once the weight is put on the earlobes, they are stretched further by putting larger pieces of stones, thorn, tusks and wood.

4. Lip Stretching Of Southern Ethiopia

The Mursi tribe is the African tribe located in the Oma valley in the Southern Ethiopia near the Sudan border. There are no less than 10,000 members of this tribal community, and they are famous for their lip saucer plates. This modification is shown as a sign of social adulthood and reproductive potential. The size of the plate used in the lips is sometimes correlated with the size of women’s bride wealth.

5. Scarification in Sudan

Though this modification is quite common around the world tribes, who are living along the Sepik River in Papua New Guinea and other regions in Southern Ethiopia and all across Sudan do this beauty enhancement for the marks of social status. The elders belonging to this tribe use the blades to cut the chest and face of the younger men in the tribe that resemble the alligator.
